The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, familiarly known as the CME Church, has a glorious and rich history! The CME Church was organized December 16, 1870 in Jackson, Tennessee by 41 former slave members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The CME Church is a branch of Wesleyan Methodism founded and organized by John Wesley in England in 1844 and established in America as the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1784. The CME Church has more than 1.2 million members across the United States, and has missions and sister churches in Haiti, Jamaica and 14 African nations.
The Fifth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church is comprised of four regions located in the states of Florida and Alabama. The regions within the Episcopal District are the Birmingham Region, the Florida Region, the North Central Alabama Region, and the Southeast Alabama Region. The Fifth Episcopal District is led by Presiding Prelate Rev. Clarence K. Heath.
The Florida Region Board of Christian Education and Formation strives to embrace our values through Engaging and Expanding the Local Church through Christian Education and Formation; intentionally "making disciples" of Jesus Christ.
We wish to reclaim our youth through COMMUNICATION, COMMITMENT, COOPERATION and COMPASSION.
In addition, to continue to train Christian Educators and local boards in the make-up and function of the Board of Christian Education and Formation.
The Department aids the CME Church in equipping and enabling her members to engage in effective ministry in the Name of Jesus Christ by focusing on The Laos (the whole people of God). By promoting the Lay Ministry Beliefs of Studying, Seeking, Sharing, and Serving, the Department of Lay Ministry seeks to live out its mission to “Reach, Teach, and Minister to All of God's People, - Equipping Them For Greater Works and Service For Him.”
